Alternative Careers in Nail Technology: How to Get Started

If you’re considering a career in nail technology or you’ve been in the industry for a while now, you may be wondering what job opportunities are out there for you. Of course, there’s the classic role of a salon nail technician, but what happens if you want to switch things up?

Well, despite popular beliefs, there are many career options for people who hold nail qualifications. From working on photoshoots to becoming a nail educator, you certainly don’t have to carry out the same job for the rest of your life.

So, if you want to find out what alternative careers in nail technology are available to you and how to get them, we’ve got you covered. In this blog we’ll discuss the following job roles:

  • Work on Photoshoots
  • Medical Nail Tech
  • Beauty Blogger
  • Nail Educator

Work on Photoshoots

An exciting and varied role, this career could propel you to new heights in the nail world. Do you ever see those gorgeous advertisements for nail polish and nail brands? Well, someone has to create the beautiful looks – and that could be you!

A great way to get your foot in the door is by networking on social media. Post pictures of your nail looks to show off your talents and you may just catch the eye of an agency, photographer or brand. Or you could create a physical portfolio of work and reach out to different agencies and employers directly.

It’s important that you love the fast-paced life, as your jobs will probably be spread out across the country with lots of different people. But you’ll most likely get the chance to work with celebrities and high profile brands, so there are many benefits. Your salary will be unstable as it’s part of the gig economy, so this could be something that you do around your main job in a salon.

Medical Nail Tech

A medical nail tech is much more concerned about the science of nail health, rather than the cosmetic appearance of nails. If you want to go down this route, you’re going to need to gain a further understanding and education of nails and biology.

The role of a medical nail tech can include diagnosing patients, removing growths/fungal infections, and reconstructing fingernails and toenails. You’ll take on much more responsibility for your patients’ health and can truly create life changing results.

A lot of MNTs find this job role fulfilling as they get to make a real difference in their patients’ lives. More responsibility also means more money, and you could find your salary increasing by tens of thousands of pounds. Your place of work may be in a spa, medical or podiatrist clinic.

However, this role requires skill and dedication so you’ll need to go back to your training school and make sure you gain the correct qualifications to carry out these procedures.

Beauty Blogger

Beauty blogging is big business – but it doesn’t happen overnight. If you want to become a big name in the nail industry this could be a career path for you. Nail enthusiasts and bloggers such as “Simply Nailogical” (she has a whopping 7.68M subscribers) share wisdom, tutorials and fun videos with their fans and reap financial benefits in return.

However, building such a big audience that blogging becomes your full time job takes years of dedication and investment. You’ll need a good camera set up, video ideas, editing skills and most importantly creativity. To churn out interesting videos on a weekly basis is no easy feat so be prepared for hard work!

You don’t need any official qualifications to become a successful beauty blogger, but if viewers know you’re a professional it could boost your credibility and they’ll be more likely to take your advice.

Nail Educator

If you want to help others progress in their careers and watch your students grow into successes, teaching may be the perfect option for you! To go down this route, you’ll need to gain some teaching qualifications so you can teach industry accredited courses and ensure your students receive the best education.

Posh Look offers two types of training to help you become a professional nail educator. Our teaching qualification is an online course that will help you make the first steps towards becoming a teacher. To complete the course and receive your certification, you must deliver a 20-minute teaching session. Once you’ve successfully passed your teaching qualification, you can then start adding courses to your belt using our online Learn to Teach programme.

Our Learn to Teach 4 Day Acrylic course helps you fast track your teaching career with the convenience of learning at home in your own time. The online video course and guides take you through everything you need to know to teach the 4 Day Acrylic Nails Course to the highest standard. You must have the aforementioned teaching qualification to sign up for this course.

Many nail educators find this role extremely rewarding as they not only boost their salary, but they get to make a real difference to students’ lives. So, it’s definitely a career you should consider!

So how do you get started as a Nail Tech?

Our Comprehensive Guide to Opening a Nail Salon

So, you want to open your own nail salon? Although it’s an extremely exciting opportunity, you need to put in the time and effort if you want to be a successful boss!

There’s lots to consider when opening a nail salon – it takes careful planning and number crunching if you want to translate your passion into a lucrative business. But, don’t let that scare you! We’re here to guide you through the crucial stages of opening a nail salon, from initial planning to your opening night.

We’ll cover:

  • Idea Generation
  • Business Plan
  • Choosing a Premises
  • Decor
  • Launch Night
  • Daily Salon Life

Idea Generation

The best way to get started when opening any business is to have a good old creative mind map. Whether you’re working alone, with a partner or whole team, it’s useful to gather all of your ideas and align them with your goals.

What services will you offer? Where do you want to be based? What clientele are you trying to attract? How will you market your services? These are all questions you should ask yourself before delving into the finer details, as they’ll have a direct impact on important areas such as profits.

Once you’ve set out your main goals and objectives, you can begin to consolidate these into a more formal business plan.

Business Plan

Like any startup business, your nail salon business plan needs to predict how your company will grow so you can plan for the future. The first decision you need to make is whether you’re going to work alone or hire a team of other nail technicians to offer services in your salon.

You may not even want to give treatments yourself, in which case you’ll definitely need to scout out the best talent in your area to come and work for you.

Your business plan will need to take into account:

  • Budget – how much money do you need to get started? We’re talking deposits, initial rent, decor, uniforms – there are many variables to consider and they begin to add up! You may also be eligible for government loans and funding to help you get started.

  • Monthly ingoings/outgoings – this is the balance between the price of your services and the costs of running your salon e.g. employee wages, rent, bills, products and more.

  • Finances – how will you manage them? Do you need to fine tune your accountancy skills or will you outsource this to a third party?

  • Marketing – it’s all well and good opening a salon, but you need to spread the word in order to attract clients. This takes time and money if you want to run an effective campaign, so factor it within your budget.

  • A plan B – you may not want to think about this, but you need to protect yourself in case your business isn’t as successful as you hoped!

Choosing a Premises

Once you have a secure business plan in place, it’s time to think about the salon premises itself. When choosing a salon, you need to consider the type of clientele you want to attract. If you’re aiming for luxury, then you don’t want to choose a back alley dive as your location.

Busy high streets in bustling towns and cities are your best bet if you want the clients to roll in. Factors you need to consider when viewing different properties are:

  • Accessibility – is the building close to main transport links and is there plenty of parking availability? If not, potential clients may not bother trying to reach your salon.

  • Space – make sure you have enough room for all of your equipment and workspaces, so your clients and employees don’t feel cramped. Plus, don’t forget to consider areas such as waiting rooms/sofas and toilets.

  • Demographics – who lives in the area? If you’re trying to attract a younger market, there’s little point in situating in a small village that’s popular with pensioners. Do some market research of the locations you’re considering to find the best area.

  • Competition – it’s no secret that the beauty industry is popular, and nail salons are popping up all over the country. Find out which salons are in your area by having a quick google or even book an appointment to see how the competition matches up.

Decor

In the nail industry, it’s all about presentation! And the way your salon looks is a reflection of how professional your services are. Think about it, you wouldn’t get a pretty manicure in a derelict building with wallpaper hanging off the walls, would you?

Amazing decor is a sure fire way of gaining free marketing from your customers. Make your salon as instagrammable as possible so people want to spread the word! We’re talking gorgeous mirrors, modern light fixtures, pretty ornaments and plenty of bright spaces.

But don’t go too crazy. Keep it tasteful – remember, it’s best to choose a colour scheme and stick to it. That way, your salon will be instantly recognisable.

Launch Night

Those endless hours of blood, sweat and tears have been building up to this – launch night! It’s time to show off all of your hard work and attract those important clients.

Before the night, you need to create a buzz around the event. No one wants an opening night with one or two people – so make sure that the place is full to the brim. Spread the word on social media – get all of your friends and family to share. It’s also a good idea to advertise the event in local group pages so people in your area know about it.

Incentivise. If people know there are discounts and free treatments on offer, they’ll be more likely to come. Give exclusive offers to those who attend to get people through your doors in the first few weeks of business.

On the night, invite the local press to cover the event and hire a professional photographer to take some snaps. This way you can recap the event on social media and show everyone how amazing your new salon looks!

Daily Salon Life

Once you get into the swing of things as a salon manager, you’ll be thankful that you put in all the time and effort to get your business started. There’s nothing better than seeing your plans come to life and be a success.

But the hard work doesn’t stop there. You should constantly be thinking of ways to up your game – whether it’s offering the latest trendy services, expanding your team or moving to a bigger premises. There’s always different things you can do to improve your current offerings.

So, now you know what it takes to open a nail salon, it’s time to put those plans into action. If you’re just getting started in your career, you’re going to need some qualifications under your belt. Check out Posh Look’s Level 3 Nail Technology courses and get started today.

The Ultimate Nail Tech Cleaning Routine

Hygiene is a top indicator of your professionalism and can be the difference between winning and losing clients. Therefore, it’s important to keep on top of a regular nail tech cleaning schedule to ensure that your treatments are safe.

Are your nail tools sparkling, is your appearance always neat and do you know how to deliver a 100% hygienic nail treatment? If the answer to any of these questions is no, this blog is for you.

We’ve created the ultimate nail tech cleaning routine, so you can give your clients confidence in your services. We’ll cover:

  • Personal Hygiene
  • Equipment Cleaning
  • Safe Treatments

Personal Hygiene

nail tech cleaning

Appearance is everything in the beauty industry. Nail techs are trusted to create stunning nails and beautiful art, so if your appearance is poor then clients are going to be instantly put off. There are small things you can do everyday to not only improve your appearance, but also increase personal and client safety.

  • Regularly Wash Your Hands – this should go without saying, but you must always wash your hands at the start and end of every treatment. As a nail tech, you’re constantly using your hands, so you must wash them thoroughly with soap and warm water to avoid cross-contamination.

  • Appearance – this includes everything from your hair and makeup, to your nails and uniform. No client wants to put their nails in the hands of someone who has a chipped, overgrown manicure. Let your own nails be an advertisement for your services! Your hair and uniform should always be neat and groomed, and a little makeup will show that you put effort into your appearance. The beauty industry is all about glamour, so your appearance should be a reflection of that.

  • Oral Hygiene – the last thing your client wants is to be greeted with stale breath. In a client facing role, fresh breath is essential as you could be talking to your client for hours at a close proximity. Always have mints on hand or even keep some mouthwash in the bathroom for a quick refresh.

Equipment Cleaning

how to start a makeup line

Nail tech’s use two types of equipment – multi-use and disposable:

  • Disposable Items – otherwise known as single use, as a nail tech you’ll have many disposable items in your kit. These can include wipes, files, nail art accessories and sponges. Once used, store any soiled items in a secure plastic bag ready for a safe disposal.
  • Multi-use Items – these are pieces of equipment that can be used on multiple clients. Multi-use items can be hard e.g. metal cuticle pusher, or porous e.g. hand towels. The great thing about multi-use items is that you don’t have to keep buying them. However, you must know how to clean them thoroughly.

A good rule of thumb when sanitising multi-use equipment is to treat all surfaces as though they are contaminated. Clean, disinfect and sterilise all equipment – in that order.

1. Cleaning expels the visible debris and dirt on your equipment. Before doing anything else, you need to wash your equipment thoroughly with soap and water. If you skip the cleaning stage, the disinfection process will be less effective due to the dirt and debris build up. Soft equipment, such as towels, should be washed at a minimum of 160°F and you can add bleach for a deeper clean.

2. Disinfecting removes the thousands of invisible and potentially harmful microorganisms on your equipment. Submerge your equipment in a cleaning solution for at least 10 minutes then remove with clean hands. Posh Look Spray Clean is also the perfect spray for disinfecting on the go, that can be used on your hands, equipment and surfaces.

3. Sterilisation is the removal of any remaining microorganisms through moist, pressurised heat. Cleaning and disinfecting will remove any nasty bacteria from your equipment, so nail techs don’t always need to perform this step. Sterilisation is more for aestheticians who use equipment that penetrates into the skin.

4. Store clean items in a clean and organised drawer. Don’t use airtight bags as these can promote the growth of bacteria.

For further information on how to clean and disinfect larger surfaces in your salon, read our blog ‘Top Tips to Improve Salon Hygiene’.

Safe Treatments

nail tech cleaning

Sanitising equipment and keeping up with personal hygiene is only one half of your nail tech cleaning routine. You must also know how to deliver a safe treatment to protect you and your client from nasty infections.

Here’s a checklist of everything you need to prepare and look out for when delivering professional treatments:

  • Check For Contra-Indications – this is anything that will stop you from performing the treatment. Examples include bacterial or viral infections, severe skin conditions e.g. psoriasis and open wounds. If you perform a treatment on an infected area, you put yourself and your current/future clients at risk of contracting the infection. Refer your client to a GP if you think it’s necessary but never diagnose them yourself.

  • Wash Your Hands – as mentioned, washing your hands is of utmost importance. You should wash them thoroughly for at least 10 seconds with antibacterial soap and warm water between treatments. For convenience, have a no rinse soap available to disinfect your client’s hands before their treatment.

  • Bandage Any Accidental Cuts – we all know accidents happen, but do you know what to do if they occur? If you become exposed to blood, put on gloves, disinfect the wound and apply a bandage to cover the area. You may carry on the treatment if possible. If your nail file comes into contact with blood you should dispose of it immediately.

  • Cleanse – keep your treatments neat and tidy by cleaning up as you go. Use Posh Cleanse to wipe away any file debris and hidden germs from your client’s nails through each step of the process. This will not only clean their nails, but will result in a neater finish too.

So, now you know all the steps of the ultimate nail tech cleaning routine it’s time to start giving your clients safe and professional treatments. At Posh Look we stock disinfecting products as well as everything you need to create fabulous manicures – shop now!

salon hygiene

Top Tips to Improve Salon Hygiene

Maintaining an excellent standard of salon hygiene is Beauty School 101, but it’s something that isn’t talked about alot. The hygiene of everyday businesses is under more scrutiny than ever before, so you need to make sure that clients have confidence in your business to deliver a safe service.

The last thing you need is a hefty lawsuit or list of bad reviews because you’ve let your salon hygiene standards slip. It’s paramount that you constantly clean your salon to protect your staff and clients from nasty infections or preventable injuries.

If you want to add more structure to your salon’s cleaning routine or just want to find more ways to give it that little extra shine, we’ve got all the salon hygiene tips you need in this handy little guide. We’ll take you through:

  • Why Salon Hygiene Matters
  • Equipment You Need
  • How to Keep Your Salon Clean

Why Salon Hygiene Matters

beauty therapy careers

A messy salon is a huge red flag to customers coming in for treatments. Many people come through your doors every day for treatments that involve sensitive areas susceptible to infection. So, a good salon should never show any signs of uncleanliness and always look spotless for every client that walks in.

It’s extremely important to keep on top of your hygiene in order to protect your clients and your staff. Here’s why salon hygiene matters:

  • Risk of infection – personal and salon hygiene should be of utmost importance for everyone who works in a salon. As mentioned, most treatments involve skin-to-skin contact on sensitive areas of the body. This makes the chance of infection high if equipment isn’t sanitary and personal hygiene is of a low standard. Surface infections can easily turn into permanent damage and scars, so it’s important to do everything within your power to prevent these from happening.

  • Cross-contamination – a lot of equipment in the beauty industry is disposable for a reason – to prevent cross-contamination. Using the same equipment from client to client increases the chances of passing on nasty infections and diseases. Therefore, it’s essential to sterilise your kit after each use.

  • Avoid injuries – salon hygiene isn’t just about cleanliness, but physical tidiness too. A cluttered workspace will increase the chances of slips and trips – in other words, a legal headache you could do without. You should also present a tidy appearance for aesthetic reasons too, after all the beauty industry profits from the importance of looks.

  • Hefty lawsuits – everything mentioned could lead to some pretty hefty legal fees if you’re not covered properly or things turn badly in your favour. That extra clean or thorough sterilisation can be the difference between smooth operations or having your salon shut down altogether!

A responsible salon owner should WANT to keep their salon hygienic and safe. So if you’re not committed to a regular cleaning schedule, then this isn’t the industry for you.

Equipment You Need

white labelling cosmetics

Now you can’t do much cleaning without the correct equipment. A bit of soap and water won’t cut it when it comes to meeting industry standards, so we’ve listed our top four essentials for maximising salon hygiene:

  • Posh Look Spray Clean – the ultimate all-purpose sanitiser for your hands, equipment and surfaces. This is the perfect spray for disinfecting between clients and wiping down equipment at the start and end of each day. Also available in a handy pocket-size bottle for when you’re on the go!

  • Disposable products – while you’ll have permanent pieces of equipment, there are some things that should just never be used twice. Beauty therapists who carry out treatments such as spray tans, eyelash extensions and waxing should stock up well on disposable equipment. This can include anything from tanning knickers to mascara wands to waxing spatulas. Use once then throw away.

  • Gloves and face masks – if you want to step up your hygiene during treatments, personal protective equipment such as gloves and face masks will act as a barrier to infection. This will protect both you and the client from contamination due to skin-to-skin contact. However, try and find latex-free versions in case your client is allergic.

  • Hand soap and sanitiser – it goes without saying that you need hand soap and sanitiser available at all times. As a salon owner, it’s your responsibility to make sure that your employees are keeping on top of personal hygiene. You can encourage this with signs and having soap and sanitiser available at different points throughout your salon.

How to Keep Your Salon Clean

So now you have your equipment ready, it’s time to get cleaning!

Day to Day Checklist

If you keep on top of a regular cleaning schedule, you’ll never have big problems. Draw up a daily cleaning routine and designate jobs to different employees so it doesn’t feel like a big task.

Keep a record of who carried out each job along with the date, so you know how often a certain area has been cleaned.

  • Wipe down furniture, surfaces and larger equipment – this should be done multiple times each day. Every employee is responsible for sanitising before and after treatments so there is no risk of cross-contamination. Wipe down leather furniture with bleach-free sanitiser to prevent cracking the material as this can cause more germs to harbour.

  • Ensure toilets are clean at all times – although this isn’t the nicest of tasks, your lavs are a reflection of your cleanliness so it’s extremely important to keep them clean. Clean them as you would at home – plenty of bleach, fresh floors, replenished toilet roll and disposable towels are a minimum. Step it up with premium hand soap, body sprays and potpourri for a luxurious feel. Who knew toilets could boost a salon’s reputation?

  • Date and label products – sanitising isn’t where the cleaning ends. Keep track of the expiry dates on products you use for treatments and any stock that you sell. Out of date products can lead to bad reactions or poor quality treatments – a big no-no!

TOP TIP: Good presentation adds to the sense of cleanliness. Adding small touches, such as fresh flowers and pretty scents, can immediately elevate your salon’s image. But, avoid the magazines – if these aren’t updated regularly they become a germ’s paradise as each person reads them.

Treatments

salon hygiene

Now that your salon’s clean, you need to make sure that you’re giving safe treatments to protect yourself and your clients.

Here are a few things you need to consider before, during and after a treatment:

  • Don’t treat clients with infections or wounds – even if your client has arrived for their scheduled appointment you should never treat them if they have visible wounds. They could pass the infection onto you and it also leaves them extra exposed to any risk that comes with treatments.

  • Wash hands – before and after each treatment, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds Lather soap in the hands and scrub between the fingers and under the nails, then rinse.

  • Dispose of any single-use tools – as mentioned, disposable products are rife in the beauty industry. Dispose of any used tools safely by placing them in a sealed bag and into the bin.

  • Focus – don’t let distractions get in the way of giving a professional treatment. Never check your phone or perform two tasks at once. This hugely increases the chance of cross-contamination and injury to the client, plus it’s unprofessional.

  • Be extra careful when working on sensitive areas – treatments such as waxing and eyelash extensions work with sensitive areas. Be extra hygienic and careful when working on the eyes, feet and private parts of the body.

Personal Hygiene

Every salon professional should be dedicated to keeping a clean image. You should come to work each day with a clean and presentable uniform, groomed hair and nails. After all, no one wants to get a manicure from someone who has chipped nail polish.

A polished appearance will give your client more confidence in your abilities, while also enhancing your personal hygiene.

As we’ve shown, salon hygiene not only makes your environment safe, but it can also boost custom, profits and the salon experience for your clients. If you need cleaning equipment or disposable tools for your treatments, head to our online shop and browse the full range!

How to Remove Nail Extensions: A Complete Guide

It’s been four weeks since your last nail appointment and your extensions are hanging on for dear life. Removal is the part that everyone dreads, but we’re going to show you how to remove nail extensions easily and safely.

Ready for your next set of sharp stilettos or cute coffin nails? Put that floss away and don’t even think about biting your nails, because our step by step guide is here to tell you how to remove nail extensions with our affordable Gel and Acrylic Removal Kits.

If you can’t get to the salon because of lockdown or you’re just too busy to make an appointment, our Removal Kits are the next best way to remove your old nails from the comfort of your home. We’re going to run through:

  • The Importance of Nail Health
  • Acrylic Extension Removal
  • Gel Extension Removal

The Importance of Nail Health

Keeping your nails in good health may seem like a cosmetic concern, but it’s actually far more important than you may think. Having a stringent nail care routine can prevent nasty infections such as ingrown nails, fungal and skin infections. Which if left untreated, can lead to far more serious health problems and a hefty podiatrist bill.

Leaving old nail extensions on for a long time will increase the risk of bacteria getting trapped under the nail, which can then lead to such infections. You’ll also have more chance of getting your nails caught on surfaces, resulting in painful breakages and permanent nail damage.

Plus, removing nail extensions will give you the chance to practice good nail hygiene on your natural nails. This will allow you to trim, clean and moisturise your nails so they’re in good condition before your next treatment.

The natural nails are also great at giving signs of other systemic conditions, like lung disease. Healthy fingernails may turn blue or dull – a warning sign which can ultimately save your life. So, they’re very helpful and clever parts of the body!

When the time comes to remove your nail extensions, be kind to your natural beauties and remove them in a safe way, as it’ll be far more beneficial to your overall health in the long run.

Acrylic Extension Removal

how to remove nail extensions

You may have seen a few methods to remove acrylic nails, but we’re going to show you how to remove nail extensions the professional Posh Look way. Our Acrylic Removal Kit contains all of the key ingredients for the perfect removal, including:

  • Acetone, 75ml
  • Cuticle Oil, 4ml
  • 150 Grit File
  • Cuticle Pusher
  • 4 Way Buffer
  • 5 Lint Free Wipes

1.First things first, you need to cut down your nails. This will reduce the amount of extension left over, therefore making the removal easier. Use nail clippers to cut down as far as you want to go. If you have long natural nails underneath, then it’s your decision how much you’d like to cut off.

TOP TIP: Apply cuticle oil on the skin around the nail to protect it from the Acetone, which can be very drying.

2. Now it’s filing time. Use the 150 Grit File to file down the acrylic as much as possible. The thinner you get the acrylic, the easier it will be to dissolve in the Acetone. Work in a horizontal direction, being careful not to catch the skin around your nails. Don’t overfile as this can cause a burning sensation and thinning of the natural nail.

3. Get your Acetone at the ready! Now it’s time to soak the acrylic off. Saturate a lint free wipe in the Acetone for each nail and wrap it around the whole extension as tightly as possible. Fix the lint free wipes in place with pieces of foil. Acetone can lift oils from the nail bed but won’t actually cause any damage, unlike peeling and lifting!

4. Leave the nails to soak in the Acetone for at least 30 minutes. Then pull the cotton balls off along with the acrylic nails. If the acrylic is still hard, repeat the process again for another 20 minutes.

5. Remove any acrylic remnants with the 4 Way Buffer. They should file off easily as they’ll be soft from the Acetone soak.

6. Finally buff your natural nails until they’re gorgeous and shiny. Push down your cuticles to neaten the nails and finish with a few drops of moisturising cuticle oil.

And you’re all done! It’s that easy and inexpensive to restore your nails to their natural state.

Gel Extension Removal

how to remove nail extensions

You’ll be glad to know that removing gel extensions is just as easy, if not easier, than removing acrylics. Our Gel Removal Kit contains everything you need for a pain and stress-free removal:

  • Magic Remover, 16ml
  • Cuticle Oil 4ml
  • 150 Grit File
  • Cuticle Pusher
  • 4 Way Buffer
  • 5 Lint Free Wipes

1.Using the 150 Grit File, file the top layer of the gel nails to remove the shine. This will make it easier for the Magic Remover to penetrate into the extension and break it down.

2. Apply the Gel Polish Magic Remover Soak Off to each nail, just as you would apply nail polish.

TOP TIP: Remove nail extensions in a well-ventilated room so you’re not breathing in all of the chemicals.

3. Leave for 5 minutes and watch the magic happen! The gel polish will begin to lift or bubble.

4. Use a lint free wipe to remove any excess Magic Remover and scrape away the remaining gel polish with the cuticle pusher. Repeat the Soak Off process if necessary.

5. Buff the nails to restore a natural, healthy shine. Apply cuticle oil to moisturise the nails and fingers.

No trips to the salon, no more old extensions and no mess – just beautiful, natural nails! Both of our kits can be ordered straight to your door from our online shop, from only £4.95. The Acrylic Removal Kit is available in small and large sizes, so you can order plenty for your next removal too.

Protect Your Skin

Isolation gives you the opportunity to invest more time into your skincare routine, so you can dazzle everyone with your new baby soft skin on that first night out. There are countless quick beauty tips and tricks for protecting your skin from home, but here are a few of our faves:

  • Hydrate – Beauty starts from within – literally. Drinking plenty of water will help your body flush out toxins and aid the transportation of oxygen, which will give you a youthful and radiant glow. So, get your full 2 litres a day and you’ll be onto a winner.

  • Sleep – We’re pretty sure everyone’s sleep cycle has been affected by isolation, but getting your full 8 hours in a regular pattern will benefit your skin. A full sleep helps with blood flow and gives your body time to rejuvenate. No more dark circles and pale skin!

  • Exfoliate – Exfoliating has countless benefits for your skin, from removing dead skin to helping moisturiser penetrate deeper into your pores. Plus, you can easily make your own at home with items found in your kitchen. Coffee is perfect for removing dead skin cells – simply mix ½ cup of ground coffee, 2tbsp hot water and 1tbsp coconut oil and you’ve got yourself the perfect face scrub.

  • DIY Spa – Missing your monthly facial? Give yourself a relaxing steam facial by filling your sink with hot water and covering your head with a towel. The hot steam will lift impurities from your skin and leave you looking glowy. At the same time, you can give yourself a face massage to lift and firm the face, by using upward strokes and circular motions.

Tanning Time

quick beauty tips

If you’re sick of looking pale, then a quick fake tan will help you get your mojo back. Our Posh Tan Collection contains everything you need to create the perfect sun-kissed look from home. We have Home-Use Mousse, tanning mitts and Tan Corrector so you can complete a professional tan from start to finish.

There’s nothing worse than creating a patchy mess, so make sure you check out our 4 Step Fake Tanning Routine for some quick beauty tips.

As we all know, there are so many benefits to fake tanning. You don’t need to spend hours in the sun or visiting the sunbed shops to get a perfect golden glow. Plus, it protects you from harmful UV rays that cause premature aging and permanent sun damage. Sounds like a win win to us!

So, follow these 5 quick beauty tips to carry on feeling fabulous during isolation. Posh Look have everything you need while the salons are closed, so take a look at our wide range of beauty products and order them straight to your door.

A Guide to Online Beauty Training

We’ve all settled into life at home now, but are you looking for new ways to use this time to your advantage?

Here at Posh Look, we’ve developed a brand new online beauty training platform to help our current and prospective students kickstart their careers while in isolation.

In this blog, we’re going to answer some of the main questions you may have about our innovative beauty training platform. We’ll cover:

  • How does the Online Training Platform Work?
  • What are the Benefits of Online Beauty Training?
  • Who is Eligible?
  • Our Top Tips for Learning from Home

How does the Online Training Platform Work?

Posh Look’s online training platform is unique as it’s an official qualification sponsored by JTM and funded by the government, rather than just another branded course. As a result, you can be assured that we’re following all of the correct guidelines to deliver an enriching and professional standard of training, even online.

Students will have a login to access the online platform where they’ll find their assigned course. The course includes detailed video tutorials, training manuals and expert guidance from our dedicated tutors.

80% of the course is completed online, as you can learn the theory at home and practice the practical work on yourself or people living with you. Once lockdown is over, students must be able to travel to their enrolled training centre to complete the final 20% of the course. This will include assessments and practicals, after which students will receive their certification.

Most importantly, you won’t feel alone while completing your training at home. Every course is run by the trainer from your enrolled centre, who you can contact for help and further guidance whenever you need it.

Keep an eye out for our regular LIVE webinars, where Posh Look’s Founder, Clare Kelly, and a host of other Posh Look trainers discuss the online beauty training platform and answer your questions. The next webinar is taking place on Friday 1st May at 10am. Sign up now!

What are the Benefits of Online Beauty Training?

Use Isolation to your Advantage

We believe online beauty training is a positive way to spend your time during isolation. It’s an excellent way to further yourself and stay engaged with your career goals while everything is on hold.

Actively working towards a qualification will give you a sense of achievement and keep your productivity at its peak, which will significantly affect the way you feel at home. And once this is all over, you’ll be ready to get your certification and start working as a beautician right away!

Let’s face it, the beauty industry will be booming once people are able to get to the salons again and catch up on all of their missed appointments, so now is your prime opportunity to get started.

Full Support and Guidance

It’s a common misconception that the quality of online beauty training is lower than being in a physical classroom.

Our trainers are passionate about their students’ success and ensuring that a fully optimised learning experience is what they receive. That’s why Posh Look is always here to guide you through any areas that you may be struggling with and answer any questions you may have.

You’ll be able to contact your assigned trainer at any time, so you can still build a great working relationship with them. We also have an active community of learners on our Posh Look Training Facebook page, where you can network and stay in the loop with the latest news and products.

Work at your own Pace

The main advantage of video tutorials is that you can pause and replay them as many times as you want. So if you need to understand something more or go over a certain technique again you can.

Our in-depth manuals will also assist you in digesting the theory side of the learning process. This way you’re using all of the cognitive and physical areas of learning to eventually have a fully rounded education.

Current students will pick up from where they left off, but they can still access previous tutorials if they need to refresh on areas that they’ve already learnt.

Free Kit and Funding Available

As with all Posh Look courses, students receive a free kit that’s delivered straight to your door. This will contain everything you need to get started and practice the new techniques you’ll be learning.

Furthermore, eligible students can apply for funding so you don’t have to miss out due to financial worries.

Who is Eligible?

At the moment, current Posh Look students will have access to the online platform to continue their courses where they left off. If you’re a current student, you’ll receive email updates to let you know when you can access the platform and get started.

Prospective students who would like to start a new course or build on their previous qualifications will have the opportunity to enrol as new courses open. Enrolment is currently open for Level 3 Nail Technology at Widnes, Fleetwood, Rochdale, Warrington, Rawtenstall and Middleton. Places are limited so email training@poshnailz.co.uk to enrol or enquire so you don’t miss out!

Our Top Tips for Learning from Home

beauty qualifications

Learning from home can be an extremely effective and focused way of furthering yourself when done right. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

Get Practical

You may think that it’s going to be tricky to practice new techniques without a model. But you can still get practical even if you’re at home alone.

  • Makeup – you can easily practice new techniques on your own face to help you get the hang of them. Whether it’s a smokey eye or special effects, any form of practice will help you improve.

  • Nails – you can purchase a training hand from our online shop to follow along with the video tutorials. Or you can practice on your own nails, even if it’s just to perfect your filing or painting techniques.

  • Beauty – although this is a little trickier it’s not impossible. Practice massage techniques on your own legs and arms, or get to grips with brows and lashes by having a go on yourself. If you have willing models in your house then practicing on them will help you to improve your skills.

Network with other Students

As mentioned, we’re all about building the Posh Look training community even when we’re not in the classroom. Stay up to date and talk to other like-minded students on our social pages. Swap notes and tips and help each other out, because after all we’re a team.

Plan out your Day

Planning out your day will keep you motivated and on track to achieving your goals. If you know you want to nail a certain technique by the end of the day then you can easily measure your progress.

Write a list in the morning of what you want to achieve and try to stick to it!

Stay Organised

Keep a record of work that you’ve done in organised files whether they’re online or in a physical folder. That way, you know exactly what you’ve done and what you need to do.

It’s also a good idea to keep training time separate from leisure time. Regular breaks are good to keep the mind fresh and productive. Working in a private room will help you stay on top of this.

Now you know everything about our new online beauty training platform it’s time to get started. If you want to enrol onto a new course, sign up to our mailing list for the latest updates so you don’t miss out when slots become available! If you have any further questions please email training@poshnailz.co.uk
